"I'll never forget that day, almost 30 years ago, when my oldest daughter, Gabrielle, who was 3 at the time, rendered me speechless. I was a young single mother, frantically trying to get the two of us out of the door when she asked me in her sweetest little voice if I would read her a story. I snapped back at her "we don't have time!" Her simple (but wise) response has stuck with me after all of these years. She placed her little hands on my cheeks and said hopefully, "that's ok, Mommy, we can MAKE TIME!" How could I resist? We were both late for whatever we were rushing to that day, but Gabrielle taught me something that has stayed with me ever since. To this day, whenever possible, I try to "make time."
Today, Gabrielle is the young mother pictured in this painting and I'm proud to say she has stayed true to her wisdom, always "making time" with her sweet little daughter, Poppy. The original 11"x14" oil painting, "Make Time," was a gift to my grand daughter, Poppy, for Christmas, 2017. It's my wish that Gabrielle and Poppy will spend their entire lives "making time" for each other. " - Amy Waldrop
